Oakland University welcomes Tokyo-born pianist Kotaro Fukuma to Varner Recital Hall on Friday, February 24 at 8 p.m. to perform as a guest artist of the Music program.

Hailed as “A fabulous artist… and a prince among peers,” by The Independent (UK), Kotaro Fukuma has received many high awards in international competitions, including the Arthur Rubinstein, Gina Bachauer, Chopin and Cleveland Piano Competitions. His concert career spans five continents and he has performed in major concert venues across all of them.

Kotaro Fukuma has released 10 commercial CDs and received critical acclaim in such music magazines as Gramophone, Diapason, American Music Records, Monde de la Musique, Classica, Bayern 4 Klassik and Classic Today.

The concert, “Home Country,” will include:

-Grieg: In My Homeland, Halling, Spring Dance, Homesickness, Homeward (from Lyric Pieces)
-Chopin: Mazurka F Minor Op.68-4; Polonaise Héroïque A-flat Major; Ballade No.1 G minor Op. 23
-Smetana: The Moldau (transcription by Fukuma)
-Tchaikovsky: Scène dansante (Invitation au Trepak) Op. 72, No. 18; Dumka Op.59
-Ginastera: Dansaz argentinas Op. 2
-Skelton: Civil War Variations

The concert is in Varner Recital Hall. Tickets are $20, and $10 for students.
