Chief Financial Credit Union recently opened the doors to its newest branch just across from Shain Park in Birmingham, MI. Chief has already become a proud community partner and trusted resource to local businesses and nonprofits during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“My family and I have lived in Birmingham for almost 10 years, it’s been an amazing experience to bring my Chief team to the place I call home. Originally, our Birmingham location was set to open just weeks before Michigan faced its global health crisis which meant that we opened and closed our doors almost simultaneously,” said Tom Dluzen, President of Chief Financial Credit Union. “We quickly moved all of our services and resources online keeping many of our team members employed and remaining easily reachable to our members through our remote channels.”

In recent months, Chief has been able to assist local businesses and nonprofits throughout Oakland and Macomb Counties navigate Personal Payroll Protection Loans. Chief Financial assisted more than 50 businesses and nonprofit organizations to maintain staff and survive the economic downtown faced due to closure and the inability to fundraise.

“When the shutdown happened in March, The Community House literally came to a standstill,” said William Seklar, President and CEO of The Community House of Birmingham and The Community House Foundation of Birmingham. “The first people we turned to were our good friends at Chief Financial Credit Union. After the first phone call with Tom, we knew that someone out there cared about us and we weren’t alone.”

Seklar continued, “One might ask with all the banks and institutions in the area that we certainly are supportive of: ‘Why Chief Financial Credit Union?’ and it was because of the first meeting I had with their team. They talked about their philosophy and I said that’s somebody that I would like to do business with.”

Chief’s Birmingham branch is now open to the public practicing safety and sanitation protocols in line with COVID-19 mandates. Chief Financial plans to host an official Ribbon Cutting event in the coming months once social gatherings can be safely coordinated in Michigan.
