    On October 24th, Troy Chamber partnered with Oakland Community College (OCC) and Inteva Products to host a meet and greet breakfast for three faculty members visiting Michigan from the Wuxi Vocational Institute of Commerce located in China. This is part of a 90-day development experience which allows the faculty members to observe business and English as a Second Language classes at OCC, meet with Chinese businesses and groups in the Detroit area, experience the community college culture in this country and learn more about the Metro Detroit Region.   8. Hamilton Elementary Wins $1,000 Cash Prize for Step Up Program

    Congratulations to Hamilton Elementary School who was the winner of “Step Up to the Plate,” a partnership between Troy Chamber member restaurants and the Troy School District.  The students at Hamilton took advantage of the restaurant discounts and collected the most receipts out of all the Troy schools.

    As winner of the program, sponsored by Cornerstone Community Financial, Hamilton earned a $1,000 cash prize. Over the five-day period, restaurants offered diners 20% off their food purchases. Hamilton utilized their winnings from last year to add books to the fiction section in the school library.

    “We are honored to sponsor this program,” said Serina Boyd, Branch Manager at Cornerstone Community Financial. “This is a great opportunity to give back to the community and also support local businesses.”

    Since its inception, Step Up to the Plate program has rewarded thousands of dollars in cash prizes to Troy schools.

    The program was made possible thanks to the support of 12 local restaurants including: Carrabba’s Italian Grill, Cedar Grille, Papa Romano’s Pizza / Mr. Pita, Granite City Food & Brewery, Tropical Smoothie Café, Steelhouse Tavern, Mr. Kabob Xpress, Olga’s Kitchen, Insalata, La Saj Lebanese Bistro, Maggiano’s Little Italy and Troy Escape.

  9. Troy Chamber Hosts Expert Panel to Discuss Future of Autonomous Vehicles

    On Wednesday, May 23, the Troy Chamber of Commerce will host Connect Troy, an engaging panel discussion featuring four prominent automotive tech companies that are championing the future of autonomous vehicles. The panel will highlight their contributions to the driverless car and provide insight on how mobility will shape our future. The event will be held from 8-9:30 a.m. at Altair, 1820 E Big Beaver Rd, Troy.

    President & CEO of the Troy Chamber, Ara Topouzian, explains that Connect Troy is a great opportunity to interact with these automotive companies as they share their vision of Michigan’s role in the future of autonomous vehicles.

    “As the economy continues to rebound, the auto industry is moving quickly to perfect autonomous vehicles,” said Topouzian. “The future is now when it comes to the technology being developed and Connect Troy will allow businesses to hear from some of the major players and what they are doing within this space.”

    The panel of experts include: Tom Toma, Product Manager at Magna Electronics; Amine Taleb PhD, R&D Director at Valeo Comfort and Driving Assistance Systems NA; Scott Morell, VP of Engineering at Danlaw Technologies; Mike Thoeny, Managing Director of Automated Driving at Aptiv, and moderator Chester Dawson, Senior Reporter at Wall Street Journal.

    “I am looking forward to share Danlaw’s work in connected vehicle systems at Connect Troy,” says Scott Morell, VP of Engineering at Danlaw Technologies. “It will be interesting to discuss with the other panelists how each of our companies’ solutions can bring greater safety and convenience to transportation.”

  10. Troy Schools Gear Up for “Step Up to the Plate” Promotion & Chance to Win $1,000 Cash Prize

    A partnership between Troy Chamber member restaurants and Troy School District (TSD), “Step Up to the Plate” is slated for Sunday, April 29 – Thursday, May 3.

    During these dates, participating restaurants will offer diners 20% OFF their food purchases if they bring in a “Step Up to the Plate” promotional piece (i.e. school flyer, ad, email or other communication about the program). Discount offer is only valid for food and non-alcoholic beverages. You can download the Step Up flyer on the Troy Chamber website – troychamber.com.

    Diners may then turn in their detailed receipts to the Troy school of their choice. Receipts are due to Troy Schools by Friday, May 11. The school receiving the most money in receipts will win a $1,000 cash prize! This promotional event is sponsored by Cornerstone Community Financial.
