The four distinguished women speaking at the event are some of Troy Michigan’s top female business leaders. This panel will be moderated by WJR Radio Detroit Anchor and Reporter Marie Osborne.

Joan Haakonstad – Owner, Intelligent Office

Dr. Joan Haakonstad is the owner of Intelligent Office Troy and prides herself on being a life-long learner, educator, and entrepreneur. Her education and early career path provides a unique insight into business in terms of sales interactions, client relations, and situational assessment. Her first career was in psychology with a specialty in crisis intervention. This taught Dr. Joan how to quickly assess a situation and leverage resources and systems around her to ensure a positive resolution to the situation.

Although Dr. Joan enjoyed the field of psychology, her passion really thrived in the entrepreneurial world as she entered the financial sector and expanded her real estate investment company and portfolio. She found that reading people and determining their personal needs are the same skills used in the business world to determine someone’s corporate pain and/or corporate need, so a positive resolution and/or system can be implemented. Through her entrepreneurial ventures, Dr. Joan was introduced to the strategic benefits of Intelligent Office first hand as a client, and knew the value needed to be shared with others. As such, she purchased a franchise with her husband, Eric, where they now work to provide other business owners with front-end administrative and workspace resources. Dr. Joan is a published author, appeared on local educational television shows, and has spoken on numerous national platforms and events.

Julia Kellogg Chief People Officer, North American Bancard Holdings, LLC

Julia Kellogg is the executive vice president of human resources for North American Bancard Holdings, LLC (NAB), where she guides strategic direction for NAB’s culture, employee engagement, learning and development, talent acquisition, compensation, benefits and well-being, payroll, employee relations, charitable giving, and facilities.  ​ Kellogg has more than 20 years of domestic and international HR leadership experience across many industries. Prior to joining NAB, she was the director of human resources for Valassis, a leader in activating consumers through intelligent media delivery, where she focused on providing strategic HR support to executive leaders, propelling business growth, and creating a dynamic workplace.   T​hroughout her career, Kellogg has positioned HR as a strategic business unit focused on cultivating talent and supporting leaders. She was recognized as the 2015 Michigan Society for Human Resource Management (MISHRM) Top HR Professional. In 2017, she was again recognized as the American Society of Employers (ASE) HR Executive of the Year. Additionally, NAB’s HR department was named the gold winner of the 2017 Golden Bridge Award for HR Department of the Year.   Kellogg is an active philanthropist and community service advocate for causes such as: domestic violence prevention and support, breast cancer awareness, literacy, and the transition of women from welfare back into the workplace. Kellogg held the position of vice president of ZONTA International, San Diego Chapter, a worldwide organization dedicated to the advancement of international women’s rights. She is active in the Detroit Society for Human Resources Management (DSHRM), where she currently sits on the Executive Board and serves as a past president.   Kellogg earned her bachelor’s degree in organizational behavior and human resources management from the University of Michigan-Flint. In addition, she holds professional distinctions as a Society of Human Resource Management Certified Professional (SHRM-CP) and as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) from the HR Certification Institute (HRCI).

Mary Mbiya – Vice President, Diversity & Inclusion Program Manager, Flagstar Bank

Mary Mbiya has been employed with Flagstar Bank since 2012 and held different positions within the bank, her current role is VP, Diversity and Inclusion Program Manager. Mary has over 18 years of experience in the financial industry and holds an MBA in finance from the University of Lincoln (Formerly Lincolnshire and Humberside) in the United Kingdom.

Mary recently took over the role of Diversity & Inclusion Program Manager where she is responsible for leading efforts in the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic objectives and priorities related to Diversity and Inclusion, including relevant community outreach initiatives related to Flagstar.

Mary is passionate about community involvement. She is the currently on the Rochester Regional Chamber of Commerce board of directors, including the Rochester Chamber’s Foundation. She also serves on the board of Paint Creek Center for the Arts and co-chairs the Art and Apples Festival. Mary was most recently invited to join the Leadership Oakland Board and the Michigan Roundtable for Diversity & Inclusion Board.

Kelly Finley – Owner & Broker, New Century Realtors

Kelly Finley is the Broker and Owner of New Century Realtors in Troy, MI.  A boutique, locally owned real estate company with a huge emphasis on customer satisfaction. Having a long history in the mortgage and financial fields, real estate came naturally to Finley. And she thrived being able to combine, all three passions and skill sets into one endeavor.

Starting out as a realtor with one of the “big name” companies in town, Finley felt the attention to detail was lacking and the whole process seemed clunky and just not fun. She wanted to change the face of real estate and make it enjoyable! Making a serious financial investment with attention to detail while simultaneously enjoying the process was something she wanted to strive for with every single client. No exceptions.

That desire coupled with a growing referral base has turned Finley’s company into a thriving local business with 12 agents (and growing)! As a big believer in empowering women and locally owned businesses, Finley is a proud Troy resident. She has seen the growth and development of Troy and has loved being a part of it!
