Warren, MI – “Preventing Opioid Addiction” will be the subject of an educational presentation from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., Sunday, January 26, at Amazing Grace Lutheran Church, 29860 Dequindre, Warren 48092. Free and open to the public, the event is co-sponsored by the church and the Troy Community Coalition for the Prevention of Drug and Alcohol Abuse.

Speakers will include Tiffany Morelli, RN, an Emergency nurse and coordinator of the Substance Use Community Program at Beaumont Health – Troy; and David Clayton, regional director/outreach coordinator for Families Against Narcotics and Hope Not Handcuffs in Macomb County. Introducing them will be Amazing Grace church secretary Denise Rodi of Madison Heights, commemorating the death of her son, Peter, from opioid addiction on January 27, 2018.

Lunch in the church fellowship hall for attendees will follow the presentation in the sanctuary. Thrivent, a nonprofit insurance and financial services organization of Christians, has donated funds for the luncheon. Freewill donations to the Troy Community Coalition, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, will be accepted.

According to Nancy Morrison, executive director of the Troy Community Coalition, “Preventing Opioid Addiction” is the third in a series of educational presentations sponsored through an informal partnership formed in 2018 by the Coalition and Amazing Grace Lutheran Church. Earlier topics addressed were marijuana and vaping.
