Member Events: May 17-20: All-Star Lineup to Shed Light on Economy at Freedom Seminar

Event Date: May 20, 2012

Event Time: Varies each day

Event Location: The Henry Hotel, Dearborn

Event Contact: http://www.northwood.edu/freedomseminar/

Event Description:

Northwood University will host its Annual Freedom Seminar May 17-20, 2012, in Dearborn, Michigan. Entitled “An Agenda for Progress and Prosperity,” the seminar will provide direction and solutions for the financial, economic and public policy challenges before us today.

According to Dale Matcheck, chair of the Economics Department at Northwood University, the Freedom Seminar, “Is as timely as ever.”

“We are in the midst of a lingering worldwide recession and everyone is looking for answers–in Michigan, the U.S. and around the world,” explained Matcheck. “The Freedom Seminar will provide ‘answers’ in the form of real solutions from proven leaders.”

This year’s Freedom Seminar is the 34th offering from Northwood University and will be held at The Henry in Dearborn, MI. Over the course of three-and-a-half days participants will explore pressing financial, economic and public policy matters, particularly as they relate to private enterprise.

“The U.S. economy is trying desperately to recover at a sustainable pace but has yet to do so,” stated Dr. Timothy Nash, vice president of strategic and corporate alliances and Fry endowed chair in free market Economics at Northwood.

“The hidden truth is that our economy is not as healthy as people and politicians want to believe. America is less competitive and less free economically than we were relative to the rest of the world just ten years ago. These are the kind of hard-hitting topics that the Freedom Seminar will dissect,” Nash continued.

National and international experts in banking and finance, economics and public policy will address some of the most “hotly contested” topics today including: the prospects for the global economy; disparities in state and national incomes; the future of capitalism and the American dream; America’s middle class; the ethics of free markets; and achieving global competitiveness.

Presenters for the 2012 Freedom Seminar are:
• Mr. Dennis Bowersox, founder, The Great American Movement.
• Dr. Michael Cox, professor of Economics at Southern Methodist University and the former chief economist of the Dallas Federal Reserve Bank.
• Dr. Richard Ebeling, professor of Economics at Northwood University and a member of the board of the National Bureau of Economic Research.
• Mr. John O’Leary, a policy analyst at the Ash Center for Public Policy at Harvard University.
• Dr. Dale Matcheck, professor of Economics and chair of the Economics Department at Northwood University.
• Mr. Maurice McTigue, vice president at Mercatus Center and former New Zealand cabinet minister and co-architect of “the New Zealand Miracle.”
• Dr. George Nash, nationally noted historian and Senior Fellow at Russell Kirk Center for Cultural Renewal.
• Dr. Timothy Nash, vice president of strategic and corporate alliances and the Fry endowed chair in free market Economics at Northwood University.
• Rabbi Aryea Spero, president & CEO, Caucus for America.
• Mr. Jonathan Williams, director of Tax and Fiscal Policy for the American Legislative Exchange Council in Washington, D.C.

The symposium is open to leaders in business, education, government and members of the general public, including college and university students from outside Northwood University.
