Internettroy was launched in 1998 as a committee of the Troy Chamber of Commerce. Much of its activity focused on providing workshops on elements of the Internet for fellow business members.
In 2000, Committee members expanded the focus and mission of this group—to help Troy Chamber member Internet-related firms prosper and to position and promote Troy as the premier technology center in Michigan.
To achieve that ambitious goal, Internettroy produced WebWeeks 2001, a month-long 14-event promotion combing education and training programs, high profile issue discussions and its first "Best of the Web" awards initiative. In addition, it designed its first website, www.internettroy.com.
In 2007, the Internettroy renamed itself the ITroy Committee. Although the focus of the group is the same, the group is currently comprised of not only technology-based businesses, but also marketing and PR professionals who are interested in providing compelling speakers, topics and programming for the Chamber’s small and mid-size businesses.
The Helen eWards for Web Excellence are continuing to grow each year. Past winners have included Beaumont Hospital, ArvinMeritor, Olga’s Kitchen, Black Bottom Collective, Oakland County as well as other businesses in Michigan. In 2005, the Committee added a “Best of Show” category, featuring sites that excel in all categories of the competition.
Annually, the Committee honors its Helen winners at a luncheon in October. The winners still receive a glass-etched award as their prizes, as well as the bragging rights for a full year. To find out more about the Helens, e-mail: theteam@troychamber.com.
